Thomas Tait wins the first edition of the LVMH Fashion Prize


After months of waiting, the LVMH Prize finally knows its outcome. The Canadian young designer Thomas Tait wins the first prize and receives 300,000 euros plus a year-long mentorship. 

Launched in November 2013, the Prize is open to designers under 40 years old who have created at least two women’s or men’s ready-to-wear collections. The latter whose Delphine Arnault, Executive Vice President of Louis Vuitton, is behind, rewards of a grant of 300,000 euros and a personalized assistance  during one year the “designer of tomorrow”.

In February 2013, 30 shortlisted designers unveiled their collection to an exceptional jury especially composed of Nicolas Ghesquière, Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld and Raf Simons. End of May, 12 finalists including Simon Porte Jacquemus (Jacquemus), Simone Rocha et Julien Dossena (Atto), again presented their creations. At the end of this presentation, the talented Thomas Tait was awarded the first prize.

Born in Montreal, Thomas Tait decided in 2007 to go in London. He will be studied in the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design where great designers like Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen but also Riccardo Tisci (member of the jury of the LVMH Prize) have been trained.
The LVMH Prize is not the first distinction of the young designer. Then just graduated, he received in 2010 the first Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize with his Autumn-Winter 2011 collection. 


Two special prizes were also attributed to Shayne Oliver plus Tina and Nikita Sutradhar, the respective designers of Hood By Air and Miniuku, who win 100,000 euros. Three graduated of Fashion School were distinguished : Peter Do (Fashion Institute of Technology, New-York), Teruhiro Hasegawa (Central Saint Martins, Londres) and Flavien Juan Nunez (La Cambre, Bruxelles - Institut Français de la Mode, Paris). Each wins 10,000 euros with the possibility to join the studio of a LVMH Maison for an one year contract.
